The Digitalus CMS leverages Zend Framework and Jquery to power the next generation of dynamic websites
The days of one size fits all software are rapidly coming to an end. Every business or group has their own requirements and methodologies that make them unique. Trying to force them into working with software that has been hacked into fitting their needs is a frustrating process for all involved. The good news is current technologies have faced this issue, and are making it much easier and faster to build flexible, stable, and scalable software.
The Digitalus CMS has found its place in the open source community by leveraging these technologies and concepts. The goal of the Digitalus CMS project is not to create the next best content management system. There are already hundreds of versions of that wheel. The goal was to build an extensible system that an experienced PHP developer could use to easily create custom, interactive websites that are straightforward enough for anyone to run.
The developers (Digitalus Content Management, LLC) saw the potential in the Zend Framework early in their development and followed this project’s development, building custom content driven sites along the way. The Digitalus CMS was the culmination of this development and was released publicly once the Zend Framework released their version 1.0.
Under the hood the CMS follows Zend’s convention using their MVC paradigm and is based (loosely) on their conventional modular structure. There are several notable exceptions, such as separating all of the add-on modules (news, events, galleries, custom modules) from the core cms to avoid confusing these files and the core.
CMS developers (with strong object oriented PHP skills) will find the system flexible and intuitive to develop and maintain. The skill set required to get the most out of the system is exactly the same as is required to develop with the Zend Framework, so any experience gained in the CMS will be applicable to any ZF based projects.
On the front end (admin and site) the CMS has a powerful template system which is built on Zend View, Zend Layout, and Jquery with a strong focus on valid XHTML.
At the end of the day this CMS makes it easier to develop targeted and customized web solutions that are easy for site managers of any level to administer.
